In today’s post, we will look at How to upgrade ESXi 6.0 to ESXi 6.5 via Offline Bundle. Offline Bundle is a zip file that contains the VMware vSphere ESXi image which can be used to perform upgrades.
Aug 07, 2017 the version “ESXi-6.5.0-4564106-standard” being listed via the “esxcli software sources profile list ” command. The “update” not being listed. Maybe the update02 isn’t supported or something? Allshare cast for mac download. Thanks for the “dry run” tip. I will try that when get around to.
Sep 28, 2018 I manage ESXi 6.5.0 Update 1 (Build 7967591) under free license. I would like to upgrade it to 6.7 (because better macOS client support). Esxcli software sources profile list -d grep ESXi-6.7.0 This will search for and display the image profiles available for 6.7.0 versions which can be a good way to see what is available if you don’t have access to query the latest image profiles by another means. Because I have just a few hosts I will be using the command line esxcli software profile update If you have more hosts and vCener installed you can leverage VMware Update Manager ( VUM ) which can orchestrate the patching across your cluster where it goes and puts the host in maintenance mode, evacuates VMs via vMotion automatically each time a. All the ESXCLI commands use the same structure.
There are multiple ways to perform an upgrade of the ESXi host and we will look at the other options in the near future. Upgrading ESXi 6.0 to ESXi 6.5 using Offline Bundle is one of the ways.
The reason behind this article is that the upgrade processes are pretty straightforward are not actually documented well on most of the sources.
Esxcli Software Profile List
Another important thing to note is that the offline bundle is available only to the paid subscription license which I believe most of the readers will have access to.
Adobe audition cracked free download. Moving on, once we have the Offline Bundle downloaded, we can start with the upgrade ESXi 6.0 to ESXi 6.5 using Offline Bundle.
First, you will have to upload the Offline Bundle to one of the shared datastores that the ESXi hosts have access to. The reason for the shared datastore is that the other hosts can also use the same bundle to upgrade themselves.
To verify that the Offline Bundle is intact and also check the images available for the upgrade, run the below command on an existing ESXi 6.0 host.
esxcli software sources profile list -d /vmfs/volumes/datastore/VMware-ESXi-6.5.0-4564106-depot.zip
The output should be similar to what’s listed below.
There are two images available to perform the upgrade, one with the tools and the other without the tools. In our example, we will be making use of the image with the VMware Tools.
Next, run the below command to perform the upgrade of the ESXi host. Make sure that you have migrated all the VMs from this host and put the host in maintenance mode.
This will initiate the upgrade of the host and if everything goes fine, you will have the host running with ESXi 6.5 running on it.
To verify that the host has indeed upgraded, run the below command.
vmware -vl

Following VMware’s release of ESXi 7.0, I upgraded my ESXi 6.7 server to ESXi 7.0 using SSH and esxcli. For those interested, see below the jump for the details of the process I used.
To upgrade from ESXi 6.7 to 7.0 using esxcli:
1. Shut down all VMs running on your ESXi host machine.
2. Enable SSH on your ESXi host machine if this service is not already turned on.
3. Connect via SSH and run the following command to enter maintenance mode:
4. After putting ESXi into maintenance mode, run the following command to set the correct firewall rules for the httpClient:
5. Next, run the following command to list the ESXi 7.0 updates available. You want the latest one that ends in “-standard” for your version of VMware.
6. Once you’ve identified the correct version of VMware (as of 4-19-2020, this is ESXi-7.0.0-15843807-standardTrane ahu manual download. ), run the following command to download and install the update.
Note: It is very important that you run esxcli software profile update here. Running esxcli software profile install may overwrite drivers that your ESXi host needs.
7. Once the update has been installed and prompts you to reboot, run the following command to restart:
8. After your ESXi host restarts, connect via SSH and run the following command to exit maintenance mode:
Esxcli Software Sources Profile List -d
At this point, your ESXi host should be upgraded to ESXi 7.0.0.
